The idea for this song unfolded on the night my wife and I and I sat with a very dear friend in Edinburgh. Our pal, who was one of Teresa’s colleagues at school, had completed his degree and was leaving for the United States the next day. His furniture and personal effects were mostly gone, and you could feel a palpable sense of melancholy and loneliness in the room. I had an idea to write a song using the device of title that implies a contradiction, i.e., “Full Room Empty with Leaving.”
